"Vote Local, Vote Liz"

Newsflash

Federal Government Funding to Council PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 24 November 2008 20:22

The Federal Government announced during the last week that they would be allocating $300M to Local Government to assist in building local community infrastructure.

This funding consists of

  • A $250M package divided amongst all the councils in Australia. The allocation for the City of Wyndham is $1,608,000
  • A $50M fund that will provide grants of up to $2M for larger projects that need funding from local, state and federal governments.

The funding will need to be spent by September 2009.  Federal Government Media Release

Projects that will be eligible for the $1,608,000 need to be projects that are not already planned and budgeted for. According to the guidelines this money can be spent on recreational facilities such as sports grounds, social infrastructure such as gardens, community facilities such as playgroup centres, environmental initiatives such as recycling plants and access facilities such as footbridges. It cannot be spent on transport infrastructure.

The extra $2M that Wyndham can apply for follows the same guidelines for where the money can be spent. The major difference appears to be that this portion of the funding is about larger projects that require funding from other levels of government.

Where would you like the money to be spent? Please contact me with any ideas you may have.
