Is Hobsons' Bay City Council seeking to 'endorse' the former local member Lynne Kosky, thereby giving its 'stamp of approval' to the Labour party in this by-election?

According to the Deputy Mayor of Hobsons's Bay's website, a motion was raised at their 2nd Feb meeting to "thank Lynne Kosky for Outstanding Service".

Notice of Motion by Cr Angela Altair -

“That council thank the retiring state member for Altona the Hon Lynne Kosky for her long and distinguished service to the city and express appreciation for her generous and important support and help on many Hobsons Bay Council projects over the years. That a Certificate of Appreciation or other mutually agreed and suitable gesture of formal recognition be presented to the retiring Minister.”

Cr Briffa moved that the motion be deferred for 2 weeks, but was defeated.

If they (Hobsons Bay Council) are seeking to be impartial in this state by-election, why not wait until the election is over?

Personally this is a serious breach in my confidence in the independence of our local councilllors. There have been a number of damning reports about this very topic. You can make your own mind, but as the saying goes "where there's smoke, there's fire".

Electing an independent candidate will break the bond between state and local politicians that has continued for decades.
