"Vote Local, Vote Liz"

Newsflash

Is Hobson's Bay Council seeking to influence the result of the election?

Is Hobsons' Bay City Council seeking to 'endorse' the former local member Lynne Kosky, thereby giving its 'stamp of approval' to the Labour party in this by-election?

Council Accountability to The Community PDF Print E-mail

Wyndham Council needs to be more transparent, open and accountable in its dealing with our Community. To that end I propose a range of changes to the way council deals with its ratepayers.

  1. The Community does use the political speak that they are accustomed to hearing from Councillors and Councill staff. Plain language should adopted as council's 'international language'.
  2. All council reports and decisions include a Family Impact Statement as an integral part of any decision making or planning process.
  3. A longer term view of projects and forward planning is taken, and made public to keep the community better informed about what is coming, and when. This could be highlighted by detailing infrastructure , road improvements and estate planning in a more easily accessible form.
  4. Councillors take a more active role as to progress in meeting actual objectives laid out in community plans and strategies, and raising issues as to non-completion of key objectives.
  5. Council reports to be easier to read and interpret, with less focus on key performance information being buried in the detail, and instead being held to public review.
  6. Individual council communication should be more personal and respectful to members of the community.
  7. Quarterly report of activity (both municipal and councillors' activities) within the Residents' Ward sent out with the rates notice, would be an easy cost effective way of doing this. Ward councillors could also be given space in this report for any issues that they involved in on behalf of the Community.

If Council believes that it is doing the best it can possibly do, then of course these changes aren't needed. However, if you can see these or other improvements as being valuable to the way that council does business

If you believe that change is needed, and that council must once again become accountable to its ratepayers;
