"Vote Local, Vote Liz"

Newsflash

Is Hobson's Bay Council seeking to influence the result of the election?

Is Hobsons' Bay City Council seeking to 'endorse' the former local member Lynne Kosky, thereby giving its 'stamp of approval' to the Labour party in this by-election?

According to the Deputy Mayor of Hobsons's Bay's website, a motion was raised at their 2nd Feb meeting to "thank Lynne Kosky for Outstanding Service".

The current issue with the removal of the Post Office from Sanctuary Lakes Shopping Centre is just another example of how Australia Post fails to fulfil its duty to the consumer. At the moment we have a population of more than 19 000 in Point Cook and in ten years that is expected to more than double, with a large percentage of that population growth being close to Sanctuary Lakes Shopping Centre. There is no doubt in my mind that Point Cook Residents' need two Post Offices in Point Cook both now and for the future.

This issue nothing new to me. Several years ago I campaigned for a Post Box outside our local corner store in the Boardwalk Estate. With the help of the owners we had over 700l hundred signatures. We met with Australia Post and we were told that policy is that post boxes will not be placed within 2km (as the crow flies) of another Post Box and as there was one at Sanctuary Lakes Shopping Centre then we would not be getting one placed at this location.

After much tooing and froing with Julia Gillard's office one Post Box was eventually placed outside Murnong Community Centre about 12 months later. At the time this was in the middle of no where really and would not have received much traffic. Our suggestion for outside the Strand Corner Store, a focal point for the community, where people regularly went would have been so much more convenient for everyone. In fact it was such a convenient location that Australia Post placed a green box (a van places mail in these boxes so the postie does not have to go back to the post office to collect his next round of mail) there.

As a local resident this is an issue that is important to me. As a prospective Councillor this an issue that the Community needs Council action on.
