"Vote Local, Vote Liz"

Newsflash

Is Hobson's Bay Council seeking to influence the result of the election?

Is Hobsons' Bay City Council seeking to 'endorse' the former local member Lynne Kosky, thereby giving its 'stamp of approval' to the Labour party in this by-election?

According to the Deputy Mayor of Hobsons's Bay's website, a motion was raised at their 2nd Feb meeting to "thank Lynne Kosky for Outstanding Service".

"Vote Local, Vote Liz"

Liz Mumby voting at the state by-electionAfter searching the current White Pages, I found that none of the candidates appeared to live in our electorate.1  It was then that I realised we need a local voice to deal with local issues and that I should run as an independent for Altona at this by-election.

When deciding to run for the seat of Altona, i wondered about why people would vote for me. After all I'm a wife & mother, who is running a small business, while succeeding in my career in the medical industry. Most importantly, I want my family to live in the best community.

So What are the REAL Issues in the Altona electorate? PDF Print E-mail

Have you ever thought about why you live here?

What made you move into this area? Have you always lived here or, are you like me, and made the decision to move into the area from somewhere else?

I live in Point Cook because I love this area, we are close to the beach, close to the city, close to regional areas (and we have great friends & neighbours here). Our activities are based here, our community involvement is here. This is where we shop, socialise, engage and involve ourselves, and our clients are here.

What we need most urgently is facilities for the kids to play sport. There are some areas of this electorate that are substantially lacking, activity, indoor, aquatic and athletics centres, and venues for specific sports such as soccer, basketball, netball, cricket, tennis and football.

I work in the local area, and own a small business that helps small business in our local community to grow, so I have a unique perspective as an employee and and employer, on how to deal with many of the challenges of employment & business.

We must meet the challenge of increasing employment in the electorate from the small one person, working from home scenario to the large companies who employ hundreds of people. And we must find a way to encourage the those businesses to produce more value.

We have problems with public transport (or lack of) and with the infrastructure for private transport.  And we have the problem of where people actually have to travel for their chosen occupation.

We want to live in a safe community. We want police visibility on our streets to discourage crime. And we want those police to feel that they are valued and respected.

On health, the issues of both the aging population in our established areas, and the of providing a completely different set health of services to our growing baby boom areas.

These issues haven't been addressed by our state government. We need action now, not words and political speeches.

Your Vote Counts PDF Print E-mail

Don't trick yourselves into believing that your vote doesn't count. In the Altona by election every vote will count. I believe that the only way that we can get resources spent in this area to the degree that they are needed it to at least make this a marginal seat. The safer an electorate is, the less resources are allocated, the longer this goes on, the more settled the sitting party becomes. We need to keep our politicians on their toes.

The saying goes 'the squeaky wheel gets the oil', in this case lets make the Altona Electorate the 'squeaky wheel'  for the State Government. We need the'oil'. Let me know what you think.

My Thoughts on Moving Into the State Political Arena PDF Print E-mail

I decided to become a Candidate in the last Wyndham Council Elections in 2008 because I felt that I could really make a difference in the Community in which I live.

In that election, 2016 people listed me as their first choice as a local councillor. After initally outpolling Glen Goodfellow,  I missed out by 101 votes after preferences, in getting on to council. Many people have since remarked on how well I'd done for my first time campaigning.

I feel that now is the right time for me to step forward again into the fray.  State Government brings more of an opportunity to make a difference in the community than perhaps Local Government does. State Government needs more people who are down to earth and have common sense and I feel that I represent that person.
